At Aftermath Behavioral Health, we are committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, and fostering a culture of respect, safety, and accountability.
Our Compliance and Code of Conduct Policy guides our employees, contractors, volunteers, and partners in delivering care in a responsible and ethical manner.
1. Commitment to Ethical Care
- We provide treatment services in alignment with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), 42 CFR Part 2 (Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records), and other applicable laws.
- All care is grounded in clinical integrity, evidence-based practices, and individualized treatment plans.
- We respect each individual’s right to dignity, privacy, and culturally competent care.
2. Confidentiality and Privacy
- We protect all patient health information (PHI) through secure systems, training, and policies in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Patient information will never be disclosed without obtaining proper written consent, except as required by law.
- Staff are required to complete training on confidentiality practices upon hire and annually thereafter.
3. Non-Discrimination and Equal Access
- We do not discriminate against any individual based on race, color, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.
- We strive to make our services accessible to all eligible individuals, including those with disabilities or language barriers, and provide accommodations as needed.
4. Professional Conduct
All staff members and affiliates must:
- Act with honesty, integrity, and transparency in all interactions.
- Maintain professional boundaries and avoid dual relationships that could impair objectivity or exploit patients.
- Refrain from any form of harassment, abuse, or intimidation.
- Avoid accepting gifts or gratuities that could influence clinical judgment or business decisions.
- Disclose any potential conflicts of interest to leadership.
5. Compliance with Clinical and Operational Standards
- Professionals with the appropriate credentials and licenses will provide services.
- All treatment plans and interventions adhere to recognized standards of care, including those established by The Joint Commission and state licensing authorities.
- We maintain accurate records of services rendered in accordance with legal, ethical, and payer requirements.
6. Marketing and Communications
- All public communications, advertising, and outreach activities will be truthful, non-deceptive, and compliant with applicable regulations.
- Testimonials and reviews will never be fabricated or manipulated.
- Any use of patient stories or images requires documented, written consent.
7. Reporting Concerns and Non-Retaliation
Staff, patients, and families are encouraged to report any concerns about compliance, ethics, or safety without fear of retaliation.
Reports can be made confidentially to:
- The Compliance Officer
- Any member of leadership
All reports will be investigated promptly, and corrective actions will be implemented as necessary.
8. Substance-Free Workplace
- Aftermath Behavioral Health maintains a drug- and alcohol-free workplace.
- Staff are prohibited from working under the influence of alcohol, illicit drugs, or any substance that may impair their ability to perform their duties safely.
- Prescription medications that could affect job performance must be disclosed to Human Resources in accordance with applicable policies.
9. Continuous Training and Improvement
Employees must complete annual training on:
- HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 compliance
- Professional ethics and boundaries
- Patient rights
- Cultural competency
- Workplace safety
